Authorisation and proof for agent payments

Let AI agents pay. Only what a human signed for.

A human sets the limit. The agent carries a signed mandate, never the card. The merchant checks the mandate before the charge.

01 / The problem

A card says yes to everything. A mandate says yes once.

An agent that holds a card number can spend anything, anywhere. An agent that holds a mandate can make one payment, inside bounds a human approved.

  • Any amount
  • Any shop
  • Any time
  • Any agent
A card number Hand an agent your card number and it can spend any amount, at any shop, until you cancel the card.

A mandate Hand it a mandate and it can make one payment, inside the bounds a human approved.

02 / How it works

Four steps. One payment.

The human decides once. Everything after that is checked against what they approved.

  1. A man at his desk checks a request on his phone beside an open laptop
    Second factor

    A human approves

The human sees the amount, the shop and the order, and confirms with a second factor.

  2. OID4Pay signs a mandate

Up to a limit, for one order at one shop, for a short time, bound to the key of one agent.

  3. The agent presents it

The agent sends the mandate to the shop. It never holds the card.

  4. A bookshop owner leans on her counter beside a tablet register
    Checked

    The merchant checks it

Before the charge. Wrong order, shop, time or agent is refused; the merchant keeps a signed record.

03 / Try it

Try to break the mandate.

An agent shops for a human. Push it out of bounds and watch the merchant's check refuse it with real refusal codes.

04 / For payment providers

Run the check before authorisation.

Your merchants will start to receive orders from AI agents. The OID4Pay verifier runs on your platform and checks the mandate first. Your normal authorisation runs after it.

  • The check runs before your normal authorisation.
  • The verifier only reads. It cannot charge, refund or move money.
  • Every payment leaves four signed records: offer, mandate, proof of the key and receipt.
  1. Agent presents the mandate
  2. Merchant checkout receives the order
  3. OID4Pay verifier on your platform Checked here
  4. Your authorisation runs as it does today
The verifier runs on your platform. It makes no payment call.

05 / For developers

Check a mandate in five minutes.

A fresh sample mandate, the real verifier, no account and no network. Run it, then read what it refuses. The packages are not published yet: the terminal shows what the example prints.

06 / Trust

What OID4Pay is, and what it is not.

It is

  • an authorisation and proof layer for agent payments
  • built on OAuth 2.0 and SD-JWT verifiable credentials
  • an append-only, hash-linked audit record

It is not

  • a stored-value wallet: there is no balance
  • a card vault: the card stays with the payment processor

Who stands behind it

  • OID4Pay B.V.
  • KvK 42074824, the Netherlands
  • Developer preview: test mode, no real money moves

Agents are going to pay. Make every payment provable.

We are choosing our first design partners among EU payment providers. A pilot runs six to eight weeks in test mode, beside one checkout.
